The product:

Accessible Job Coach is a online job coaching tool for people who have a disability of sight impairment to help develop their skills and also gain employment more quickly and effectively. Those who have a sight impairment can encounter difficulty in getting a job offer because of their disability.

The problem:

According to the RNIB*, only around a quarter of registered blind and partially sighted people of working age are in paid or self- employment, compared with around three quarters of the UK population as a whole.

* UK Royal National Institue for the Blind – Employment status and sight loss research 2017.

The goal:

Design an app that will improve career prospects for blind and partially sighted people of working age and who want to work.

My role:

Responsibilities:

Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, iterating on designs, determining information architecture, and responsive design.

User research

I used the RNIB research and from other third party employment coach resources to formulate questions to a group of blind and partially sighted people of working age. This included multiple ages in the 18-67 age range, ethnically mixed and gender types.

Problem statement: Jan

Jan is a middle aged female who has always struggled with trying to get and keep employment. Jan wants to feel that she is contributing to society and feels she has something to offer an employer – if she was able to get the skills to communicate this effectively.
